It is time to prepare for COVID 19 to enter our lives. Even though a vaccination is on the horizon, COVID is exploding in our communities now! As cases continue to spike, it is inevitable that COVID will come closer to home. From the beginning of the pandemic until the middle of October, I knew 5 people who had contracted COVID 19 (and that included my husband, our son and me). Just a month later that number has grown to 23 people!
Taking action can help reduce our anxiety. We can make a plan, create a COVID emergency kit, boost our immunity system, strengthen our lungs and begin to reduce inflammation in our bodies. Our mind chatter is quieted by our focused attention as we begin to face and prepare for possible outcomes.
Design Your Family COVID plan. Having a family plan that is well thought out can reduce everyone’s anxiety.
- Have a family meeting to create a quarantine plan for each member of the household based on the individual and collective needs of your family. This plan might be different for each person. For example, in our household of 3, we decided that if my husband or our son got COVID, they would move to the basement; If I got COVID, I would move to the home office because my allergies are triggered in the basement and the office would give me access to my work computer.
- Don’t forget about your pets. As there have been no cases of people getting COVID from their dogs, there are cases of dogs contracting COVID from their people. Decide where your pets will go if it is not safe for them to stay at home.
